MATCH REPORTS 2006 ~CAMOGIE MATCH REPORTS 2006 ~ CAMOGIE

18/04/06: LEAGUE RD 4 (AWAY)

Portobello 1-7 , Kilmacud 1-10

Portobello needed a win following defeat to St Vincents last week. The teams were evenly matched right throughout and there was little between them at half time. In the second half the pace of the game slowed considerably with the refereee awarding alot of frees. Both free takers were on form and with 10 minutes remaining Portobello scored a goal. They seemed to sit back on this goal and allowed Kilmacud back into the game. With minutes remaining portobello lead by just 1 point. Then Kilmacud struck with a goal and no sooner has they taken the sliotar out of their net Kilmacud stuck with a fine point from play. Final Score: Portobello 1-7, Kilmacud 1-10.

18/04/06: LEAGUE RD 3 (HOME)

Portobello 0-5 , St Vincents 1-5

Credit to the two teams for playing such an exciting game in what was monsoon conditions on Tuesday night. St. Vincents got off to a flying start and seemed to catch the Portobello girls out and scored some well taken points from play. Portobello kept in touch though and at the break the score was 5 points to 2. In the Second half the Portobello girls fought back and with most of the possession in the first 20 minutes drew the scores back level at 5 points each. Then with 2 minutes remaining in the game St. Vincents struck with a goal effectively putting an end to the contest. Final Score: Portobello 0-5, St. Vincents 1-5

11/04/06: LEAGUE RD 2 (AWAY)

Portobello 2-8 , Round Towers 1-0

Against a strong breeze in the first half Portobello did well to put presssure on the Towers back-line. The scores were hard to come by however as Portobello made the chances but failed to capitalise. Round Towers went in search for goals but some outstanding saves from the Portobello goalkeeper kept them at bay. At the end of the first half Portobello held a small lead knowing that they would have to "up the performance" in the second half. Up the performance they did and with the help of the breeze the girls found their form scoring some well-worked points from play. They continued to pile on the pressure and while Round Towers defence held strong at times, the pressure resulted in two fine taken goals for Portobello. Towers did not give up and pulled back with a goal midway through the second half but Portobello were simply too-strong and ran out winners in the end. Final Score: Portobello 2-8, Round Towers 1-0.

04/04/06: LEAGUE RD 1(HOME)

Portobello 4-12 , St Marks 0-2

Their first League outing of 2006 and the Portobello girls surely set out their intentions to retain the league title. A great team effort by the Portobello girls who were in control for most of the game in this physically tough encounter. St. Marks were first to score with a point in the first 5 minutes but as Portobello notched up the scores including some well worked goals it led to some frustration from the St. Marks players. Indeed one such frustration leading to a sending off. Portobello girls kept their heads down playing some great camogie and maintained their commitment until the final whistle. A well-deserved win for Portobello. Final Score: Portobello: 4-12,St. Marks: 0-2
